Here at Skill Scaffolding, shrink wrapping is quickly becoming one of our most used services.

Last year, we decided to add a new string to the Skill bow by training our “on the ground” team in shrink wrapping. We’d seen the benefits of shrink wrapping firsthand and we wanted to offer it as an ongoing service.

And we’re so glad we did. Our clients are loving the option of adding shrink wrap to their build, and we’re loving the extra safety and stability it provides our boys.

Sounds great – but what actually is building shrink wrap?

Scaffold shrink-wrap is that heavy duty film that you may have seen across scaffolding construction. It’s safe, sturdy and slick; and the benefits are major.

For many projects, the containment and protection the shrink-wrap provides is an absolute necessity. Pollution and (seriously) unpredictable weather in this country can often prevent projects coming out on time. Scaffold shrink wrap is a resourceful way to nip that in the bud before it ever becomes an issue.

But we get it. You’re still not 100% sure whether shrink wrapping is for you.

That’s why we’ve pulled together a nifty set of seven epic benefits of using shrink wrapping on your next construction project. Enjoy!

1 – It provides a drum tight fit.

The way shrink wrap moulds to a building means that it has a totally ‘drum tight’ fit. This avoids any flapping about in high winds and means you won’t come back to a totally self-destructed site.

It’s totally robust and hardwearing; virtually impossible to break through. That means its protection and resistance levels are pretty much peak.

2 – It protects from the elements.

When your climate is as temperamental as ours, one of the core things you’re going to want to protect your building from is the weather.

The drum tight fit coupled with the welded joints between each sheet of shrink wrap provides exceptional weather protection. Both the people working and the site itself get a barrier from rain and winds so that they can get the job done in a safer, quicker more efficient way.

King James Shrink Wrap3 – It’s versatile to every building.

We describe our shrink wrapping services as bespoke, as we’re able to perfectly fit every wrap to each project.

This is because shrink wrapping is a “shrink to fit” solution. The wrap is cut and welded specifically for the project, so you aren’t restricted by the size or shape of the scaffolding structure.

So whatever it is you’re working on, chances are we can step in and solve all your problems.

4 – It’s smart and professional looking.

When something works well AND looks good, you know you’ve hit the sweet spot.

Shrink wrapping creates a professional, visually appealing aesthetic, bumping up the reputability of your project to the outside world. It enhances the overall feel of the entire scaffold site, ensuring the construction stays looking neat and attractive.

5 – It allows for added privacy.

If you need to conceal what’s going on “behind the scenes” or save things for a “big reveal”, then shrink wrap is a great way to add a (physical) layer of privacy to your project.

This could benefit both local residents and those working on the project. As much as you may want to keep your work under wraps, the rest of the community may also not appreciate having to see your construction work day in and day out.

Basically, you get to keep everyone happy.

6 – It ensures environmental containment.

Keeping your local people in mind, you may also need to commit to shrink wrapping if your project requires environmental containment; aka, if you’re working with any materials that could contaminate the surrounding environment. This could include bridge shot blasting, painting projects, asbestos removal and concrete cutting.

The highly welded shrink wrap creates a continuous skin around the project; this contains and traps any escaping debris. As a result, you aren’t putting any of the community below you at risk.

7 – It is 100% recyclable.

If you read last week’s blog, you’ll know that as a company we’re seriously interested in how the industry can better join the green agenda. Which is why the fact our shrink wrapping is 100% recyclable leaves a massive gold star in our books.

You can therefore continue running your project knowing you’re minimising your carbon footprint, plus you won’t spending any extra pennies taking the casing to landfill. Win win!
