Paths of Progression – what does a career at Skill look like?
- Scaffolding Labourer: As a scaffolding labourer, you’ll begin learning the basics of each component by handling materials in our busy scaffold yard in Nursling. After a few months you’ll begin traveling out to live building sites and assist our team in setting up and taking down scaffolding structures. You’ll need to be physically fit, a team player and understand our best practices of working safely.
- Trainee & Part 1 Scaffolder: Once you’ve got a taste for site work, we’ll book you up on a number of training courses so that you can start working towards your full scaffolding qualifications. During this time you will work your way up to a Part 1 and then Part 2 Scaffolder, gaining credible experience & pay increases as you develop your scaffolding skills, ultimately working towards completing your Part 2 Training & Advanced Scaffold courses.
- Trained / Advanced Scaffolder: As a fully qualified Part 2 or Advanced scaffolder, you’ll be responsible for constructing scaffolding structures to meet project requirements, either from drawings or to NASC & Technical guidelines. You’ll need to have a good understanding of health and safety regulations, able to work at heights, and have a good attention to detail and able to lead a gang of 2 – 3 team members who will be working under your guidance.
- Contract Manager: As a contract manager, you’ll oversee the day-to-day operations on construction sites, ensuring that projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. You’ll need to have experience in construction management, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills, which you will have developed from working with us for a number of years.
- Other Office Roles: There are many other paths and roles available within Skill, we have a Health & Safety department, Operations department, Commercial, Surveying & Estimating teams, all of which are open opportunities to the right candidate.
